The area of production of this crop includes most of the central coast of the country.
Peru produces mainly two kind of avocados: Hass & “Fuerte”. The Fuerte avocado season starts in January and ends in March, while the Hass avocado season starts in March and ends in June.
Peru exports more than 55,000 tons of avocado per year. 48,000 tons of Hass and 7,047 tons of Fuerte or green skin.
Most of the plantations are young, no more than 8 years old.
It is estimated a 25 % growth on the amount Hass exports for 2011 and the same growth for 2012.
